Within the framework of World Autism Awareness Day ( April 2 ), the aim is to raise awareness and make this condition visible. Furthermore, it is an invitation for both the private initiative, society and the Government to provide support for this and other neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy.
Autism is a condition of “complex neurological development disorders characterized by difficulties in social relationships, alteration in communication capacity, stereotyped, restricted and repetitive behavior patterns.” In Mexico, it is estimated that 1 in 115 has this diagnosis, according to data from Iluminemos por el Autismo – a civil association that works to improve the quality of life of people with autism.
On the other hand, according to the Ministry Chinese American Phone Number List of Health of the State of Mexico, cerebral palsy “is a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture, which is due to damage to the immature and developing brain, most frequently before of birth". In Mexico it is estimated that there are close to 500 thousand people with cerebral palsy and approximately 12 thousand new cases are reported each year.
To better understand these conditions and how the private initiative can collaborate with them, at Expok, our general director, Edgar López, had the opportunity to talk with Marcela Espinosa, Executive Director of Public Relations, Internal Communication and Responsible Banking at Santander México ; Guadalupe Maldonado, General Director of the Association for People with Cerebral Palsy ( APAC IAP); and Gerardo Gaya, Executive President of Iluminemos por el Autismo.
We invite you to watch the interview!

initiatives to care for LIkeU forests
This shows the importance of listening to stakeholders , since customers are interested in products with a cause to generate a positive impact with their purchases and acquisitions. In fact, Espinosa highlighted that since the launch of LikeU to date, there are 488,396 LikeU cards in the hands of its clients.
We started working with each of the organizations with a seed donation so that they could start working and for each card placed they will be given a donation of 25 pesos.
Here we all want to contribute to causes, to be a diverse and inclusive society and to respect the rights of all people, regardless of the situation in which they find themselves.
Marcela Espinosa, Executive Director of Public Relations, Internal Communication and Responsible Banking at Santander México.
The social causes promoted by LikeU Star
LikeU are a series of credit cards, the first in Mexico that has the on-demand financial modality , which allows customers to customize what they want to use for as long as they want.
In addition, it is directly linked to supporting social and environmental causes in Mexico. Among them is LikeU Star: a card that will support minors with cerebral palsy and people with autism through Iluminemos por el Autismo and APAC —groups that have been promoting these causes in our country for 6 and 51 years, respectively.
According to Gerardo Gaya, Executive President of Iluminemos por el Autismo, they work every day “to cease to exist as an organization because if that happens they will not have to work to raise awareness”; In other words, his goal would have been achieved. Gaya mentioned in institutional terms:
Our mission is to carry out and influence social impact actions that cause change within the environment to improve the quality of life of people on the autism spectrum and their families.
